The prof decided to redo the syllabus for you guessed it the semester I had to take it. So the amount of work is triple what anyone else taking this class has every had to do. Am I bitter...hmm...let me think about that one....YES. I mean I get the relevance of the assignments but it is hard to even contemplate creating a collection and having the books related to one another when I have barely enough time to find the best books for the section. Not to mention the fact that I have to do lesson plans and research portions for each assignment. In the spring I had a rather hard grad student prof teaching a class and I was frustrated to no ends...well right now I would trade for that professor back. The following is one assignment that was just due:
Read: Text chapters 6 and 7
Explore/research: Select an issue that you have found in either or both of these genres and explore it further in research. How will this effect your choices of books for the library? Include a summary of this in your written work for this week.
Think: What are the links between these two types of literature? What place do they have in a library collection and what percent of your “collection” will you make from these genres? Be sure to justify your opinions with research and share with the class in ONLINE for this week.
Write: Choose and annotate the selections for your library. Justify your choices using information gathered during your research and thinking parts of this assignment.
Online: Share your thoughts on the values of these two genres to library collections being sure to use research to support your thoughts and writing. Include a summary from the THINK portion of this assignment as noted above. Create an author study or genre study project using books from your collection. You should have enough in both fiction and everyman areas at this point (and you may have discovered that picture book authors also write great fiction and vice versa) to develop an outline of an author study.
Now the reading was fine...but add to this that she does not want to read a lot so we are to keep it as short as humanly possible. This last assignment was 14 pages long. There are 8 people in the class and we have yet to have a grade for any of our collection development projects as of yet. Frustrating does not begin to cover it. Yes I am complaining...but what is LJ but a means to let go of frustrations in the hopes of moving on.
I have some new fishy friends....I will take pictures of them soon. I have not shared prior to now due to my usual poor luck with fish. But these guys seem to like me and have stayed alive longer then many fish I have ever owned. YAY me and
Blue Betta - Jean Luke (due to his sense of refinement and finesse) -- This fish is pure beauty
Female Dalmation Molly - Victoria (due to her uppitiness and pure attitude...she is quite the Queen and knows it)
Male Dalmation Molly - Harold (a bit more aggressive then the black molly but still subservient to Victoria)
Male Black Molly - Edward (due to his demure and timid nature)
Algae Eater - I cannot remember....I feel like he will be Alfred though because he cleans up after everyone..please help
Blue Mystery Snail- Myster (he is a bit of a mystery.....and this name seemed to fit him....please god I hope he did not mate with any of the snails in the pet store....I remember not to fondly a certain outbreak of baby snails during my wells years)
Now one would think that Jean Luke would not due well in a tank with other fish but this is a common misconception and I researched a lot before my purchase of near Jean Luke. He is quite happy with his tank mates as they are non-aggressive tropical fish without any similar characteristics to his beautifulness.
